Job Summary

This position will provide oversight and day to day management of a team of Instructional Designers & Learning Management System Administrators.  This person will work with internal subject matter experts to determine eLearning and training needs of our employees and to ensure our employees acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and engaging manner.  They will create policies and standards for the creation, rollout and ongoing maintenance of our eLearning modules within our Learning Management System.  This position reports to the Sr. Manager of L&D. 

This position is able to be located out of SHI Somerset, NJ or SHI Austin, TX office location to work in a hybrid model, 3 days a week. 

Responsibilities

Instructional Design 

  • Day to day management and oversight of a team of instructional designers & Learning Management System administrators 
  • Oversee implementation of the instructional design process across all educational course builds 
  • Provide innovative and forward-thinking approach to learning, instructional design, and departmental collaboration 
  • Mentor, train & develop existing and newly hired employees 
  • Establish standards for creation and maintenance of SHI’s eLearning content – including internally created and externally procured offerings 
  • Ensure consistent creation of high quality and engaging training offerings in a fast-paced growing organization 
  • Ensure content accuracy by partnering with subject matter experts and stakeholders as needed.  
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts & Instructional Design Team to identify target audience’s training needs, define learning objectives and develop online course content & materials 
  • Provide final review of eLearning modules and suggest edits prior to internal launch 
  • Troubleshoot issues with training modules and LMS as reported by direct reports and/or user escalations 
  • Keep up to date on modern learning tools, adult learning trends, and instructional design concepts. 
  • Research new and innovative instructional design, gamification, and technology practices. 
  • Create and implement course maintenance schedules for new builds, revamps, and refreshes to include: key performance metrics, timelines, milestones, and interactions 
  • Design courses, facilitator guides, and e-learning content.  
  • Design and deliver surveys within pre-set timelines, measure learning effectiveness, assess knowledge gaps newly launched products/app features knowledge, and post training evaluation process. 

 

Learning Management System (LMS) 

  • Collaborate and oversee LMS Admin on all LMS matters 
  • Design LMS course CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) to be used for all LMS course offerings 
  • Establish guidelines for course creation (shell and all content) within the LMS and course layouts including discussion boards, bulletin boards, quizzing, weekly content, conferencing, and cohort collaboration 
  • Evaluate course feedback using appropriate Kirkpatrick levels 
  • Manage LMS Admin to coordinate rollouts of LMS improvements and training for ID team in conjunction 
  • Lead technology migrations and updates as needed in conjunction with IT and the LMS System Administrators 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Instructional Design, Business Management, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • 5-7 years instructional design experience 
  • At least 2 years of instructional design experience in a business environment 
  • Preferred 1 year of management experience working with creative design and development teams 
  • Experience with a SaaS Learning Management Systems (Docebo, Workday) 
  • Expertise in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, Vyond) 
  • Proficiency with instructional design and visual design tools (Storyline, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver) 
  • Proficiency with Office 365 collaboration tools (Teams, Loop, Planner) 
  • Proficiency with generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot) 
  • Proficiency with various authoring tools (Powerpoint, Captivate/Camtasia, Articulate Rise, Storyline, Canva) 
  • Knowledge of learning theories, adult learning principles, and instructional design models 
  • Experience with SCORM standards & program calls 
  • Experience with Analytics & PowerBI and HTML

  • Agility to manage the needs of the varies learning delivery platforms, access risks, and deliver results 
  • Ability to work cross functionally across multiple disciplines within the company 
  • Ability to work independently and manage self towards goals, while being a team player 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and proven application of learner-centered, performance-based instructional techniques, tools and methodologies 
  • Open to receiving feedback as well as providing feedback to junior members of the team 

Unique Requirements

  • Comfortable presenting, operating, and collaborating within a remote and hybrid work environment
  • Professional certification in ROI and impact measurement methodologies (Kirkpatrick) a plus.
  • Experience curating content from third-party SaaS platforms a plus.
  • Experience developing training for a sales organization, especially within the technology industry, also a plus.
