Job Summary

The Associate IDCS Systems Engineer will troubleshoot, validate, and analyze hardware devices within the customer defined architecture, and liaise with vendor support teams to resolve defective equipment. The Associate IDCS Systems Engineer will be part of a team of Associates who will install firmware, hardware, and run testing for validation while making necessary changes to the rack system if necessary.  The Associate IDCS Systems Engineer will support remediation of hardware and software issues by working with vendors to troubleshoot and source solutions, and by maintaining documentation of those issues and solutions.  The Associate IDCS Systems Engineer will report to a Lead IDCS Systems Engineer.  This position is required to report to the SHI Piscataway NJ office location as determined by SHI management.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot and rectify data center hardware, software, and systems
  • Initiate and fulfill service requests with vendors to rectify defective equipment
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot hardware and software
  • Schedule and supervise repair technicians
  • Quickly and efficiently respond to error messages received and identify and troubleshoot the hardware and/or software issues
  • Document and maintain records of defective equipment and effective resolution
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts for rectifying future defects
  • Collaborate with team to streamline efforts and create a fluid environment so that each team member can pick up the project where another has left off
  • Recognize high-priority issues and escalate to the Lead Systems Engineer

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technology related discipline preferred (Engineering, or Information Technology is desired) or equivalent industry related experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and other datacenter appliances.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with vendor support teams to submit trouble tickets
  • Minimum 1 year of experience troubleshooting advanced hardware and software issues
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with large scale IT projects related to deployment and configuration.
  • Minimum 1 years of experience leading technical projects
  • Minimum 1 years of customer facing experience

Preferred Qualifications/Skills: 

  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python, shell scripts)
  • Ability to obtain certifications as needed
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (xCAT, Ansible, Cobbler, Chef, etc.)
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience and capable operating in CLI-based environments.
  • Experience with modern data center technologies and concepts.

Unique Requirements

  • Extended hours are required to complete some special projects
  • Position requires the ability to move or lift up to 50lbs

Additional Information

  • The estimated annual pay range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 which includes a base salary and bonus. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
