Job Summary

The Business Continuity (BC) Manager will ensure Business Continuity Management (BCM) components are developed and maintained in compliance to the Firm’s ISO-driven Policy and Associated Standards and be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining business continuity and disaster recovery strategies to ensure the organization's resilience in the face of disruptions.

 

This role involves collaboration with various departments to identify potential risks, develop response plans, and coordinate training and exercises. The candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the areas of Business Continuity (BC), Disaster Recovery (DR) and Crisis Management (CM).  

 

The BC Manager will report to the Head of Risk and Resiliency and will play a key role in the execution and improvement of the BCM Program and tools. The candidate will lead a team and ensure.

 

This position will be reporting to the SHI Somerset NJ office as determined by SHI management.

Responsibilities

Include, but not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plans across all business units.
  • Conduct risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop strategies and solutions that mitigate risks and ensure continuity of critical business functions.
  • Develop testing schedules and gain approval from all stakeholders, including IT management, recovery team leads, affected clients, etc.
  • Manage small and large scope type disaster recovery exercises leading multi-discipline groups of employees, consultants, and vendors to ensure resiliency against disasters and drive continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and lead regular business continuity training, testing, and exercises to ensure organizational readiness.
  • Manage and update business continuity policies, procedures, and documentation in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Act as the primary point of contact or incident coordinator, during incidents, coordinating response efforts and communication among internal and external stakeholders; providing various reports/metrics as required.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of business continuity plans, recommending improvements, as necessary.
  • Stay informed about emerging risks, industry trends, and regulatory requirements related to business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners and vendors to support continuity efforts.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on the status of business continuity initiatives and readiness.
  • Act as SME for IT Disaster Recovery capabilities and disciplines; liaise with IT and business partners in coordination and communication of BC / DR /CM activities.
  • Counsel business units on contracts, statements of work and BC/DR plans for outsourced services and systems to ensure cohesiveness and contractual compliance.
  • Provide technical consulting for complex disaster recovery solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver metrics, data visualizations, and reports to support meetings with business partners and Steering Committee
  • Assist with internal BCM Governance and Operational Resilience Reviews
  • Review website content to ensure relevance and consistency.
  • Act as a program administrator for the Risk and Resiliency (R&R) tools/systems, managing features and functions, creating training materials, conducting end-user training, and validating quality and completeness of data.
  • Coordinate responses to RFPs and third-party requests.

 

Management Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the business continuity team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure effective implementation of continuity strategies.
  • Oversee the allocation of resources for business continuity initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Evaluate team performance, providing feedback and development opportunities to enhance skills and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams during crisis situations, ensuring cohesive and effective response efforts.
  • Develop succession plans and continuity strategies for key personnel and leadership positions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years relevant experience
  • Prior experience as a BC manager or in a similar role with 7-10 years of experience in BC/DR planning and execution (formal BCM program at a medium to large company)
  • Minimum 5 years of direct DR experience including creation of runbooks, DRPs, execution of end-to-end DR exercises, knowledge of networks configuration, servers, and applications found in modern data centers including cloud environments and their recovery solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience as a People Manager.
  • Knowledge and experience with Business Continuity Management and Information Technology standards and best practices, including governance frameworks (ISO 31000, 27001, 22301, NIST, ITIL, etc.)
  • Strong practical working experience with client/server technology, networking, data replication practices and ability to create/interpret architectural diagrams to identify gaps.
  • Working knowledge and experience with GRC, ITSM tool, BC/DR Planning and Emergency Notification Systems.

  • Proficiency in using business continuity software and tools.
  • Able to present information on technical subjects in an understandable manner in both oral and written form.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of a project through its life cycle.
  • Flexible and positive ‘can do’ attitude; ability to remain calm and work well under pressure or during incidents and times of crisis.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks with changing priorities, communicate changes in scope and schedule to all concerned parties.

Certifications Required

  • MBCI/CBCP Certification
  • CDRE (Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer) Certification
  • ITIL Certification

Unique Requirements

  • Position requires 25% of travel to meet with internal business groups and/or vendor assessments.
  • Must be available to work evenings/weekends, extended hours, and/or on short notice as needed for incident response should an unforeseen event occur.

Additional Information

  • The estimated annual pay range for this position is $120,000 - $135,000 which includes a base salary and bonus. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
