    Job Summary

    SHI International Corporation has an opportunity in our Enterprise Division as an Integration Data Center Tech - Field. The primary role is in the FE capacity, and requires travel to customer data center locations to support break / fix repairs and new build handoffs. When onsite visits are not scheduled, the candidate will assume the role of Build Technician and will support rack integration projects. They will be responsible for reviewing all rack builds and confirming that they meet the customer elevation requirements and are configured per integration specifics.

    Responsibilities/Job Function

     Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

     

    • FE New Build Handoff / BreakFix
      • Visit Customer Global Data Centers (Domestic and International) to complete build handoff.
      • Domestically – Complete handoff tasks and on larger engagements where others are assisting, provide appropriate training and guidance.
      • Internationally – (no work visa (can’t touch equipment), you will supervisor and verbally train the local Vendor Partner FE’s, using SHI owned and project configured laptop and related equipment to successfully complete the handoff.
      • Following initial hardware assessment which may require manufacturer replacement parts, which will require you to communicate with vendor and open (on Customer’s behalf) related tickets.
    • Build Technician
      • Work with the SHI configuration technicians and the Integration Build Team.
      • Support Lead Technicians and complete build activities as scheduled.
      • Install components into the rack, following rack elevation diagram.
      • Install cables and labels as documented.
      • Complete power redundancy testing.
      • Configure servers and complete documented bench testing.
      • Complete configuration updates as documented for the specific build.
      • Complete checklist as documented for the specific build.
      • Review/decipher integration documentation technical detail.
      • Follow Quality Control processes and follow QC documentation, as defined by customer.
      • Follow detailed oral and written instructions in the installation/removal and repair of electronic equipment.
      • Use personal computers or Laptops to monitor inventories, reorder supplies and write reports.
      • Read and interpret dials, gauges, meters, graphs and electrical wiring diagrams pertaining to the installation, testing, operation and repair of electronic equipment.
      • Acquire additional skills to maintain technical competencies.
      • Read and comprehend technical manuals, troubleshooting guides, manufacturers specifications, used in the installation and repair of electronic equipment.
      • Experience or related experience performing installation for service providers.
      • Work activities could include:
      • Check equipment in and validate against Bill of Material.
      • Rack and Stack components.
      • May be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time.
      • May be required to lift and move items up to 70 pounds.
      • Cable and label build components.
      • Power on components and check for failures.
      • Make support calls to vendor for failed components.
      • Complete IP updates on management interfaces, including switches.
      • Install license keys.
      • Complete BIOS and firmware updates.
      • Capture MACs and save the data.
      • Capture and merge data and post it to SharePoint.
      • Provide updated status to Lead Technicians and hand off unfinished deliverables to supporting team members.

    Qualifications/Minimum Skills Required

    Education:

    • 4 year completed college degree or direct equivalent Data Center experience

    New Build Handoff / BreakFix

    • Proven ability to provide clear and concise directions and instruct others on process/procedure as they relate to builds
    • Travel and overnight stayover is required.
    • Credit Card required (several international travel – requires hotel accommodation be expensed first out-of-pocket, then reimbursed).
    • Valid Driver’s License required.
    • Valid Passport required.
    • Some countries do not allow visitors that have DUIs.

    Build Technician

    Minimum of 1 year of experience in the following areas:

    • Experience with network and server configuration.
    • Experience with rack and stack and cable routing.
    • Ability to interface with customers and to process and relay technical detail.
    • Ability to work under tight time constraints and meet strict deadlines.
    • Technical problem solving skills.
    • Must work with meticulous attention to detail and will be required to work onsite in the configuration center.
    • Ability to work with several teams and manage multiple rack integration projects that are running simultaneously.
    • Ability to configure/troubleshoot and integrate multiple hardware vendor devices including but not limited to Lenovo, IBM, HP, Dell, FireEye and Acme Packet.
    • Ability to upgrade firmware, configure network settings, and configure other settings as required by customer across multiple vendor hardware.
    • Ability to review current QC processes and facilitate efficiencies (we need to build/move more racks through QC faster – create automation where possible).
    • Candidate must possess organizational and planning skills.
    • Ability to work with several teams and manage multiple rack integration projects that are running simultaneously.
    • Must be able to produce excellent results (rack built to customer specifications) with accuracy under accelerated time frames.
    • Ability to review technical documentation, including VISIO diagrams and be able to transfer that logical information to a physical build.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Knowledge of configuration and SHI warehouse processes.
    • Some knowledge of servers, storage, networking.
    • Knowledge of AX, specifically as it relates to config check in / check out – order processing.
